Dog Park

DUE TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW ANIMAL SHELTER, THE ONSITE PUBLIC DOG PARK WILL BE CLOSED INDEFINITELY. WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE DURING THIS TIME. PLEASE VISIT THE K-9 GUNNER DOG PARK AT 13000 MINNIEVILLE ROAD UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

The Prince William County Police Department's Animal Control Bureau operates a public dog park on the grounds of the Animal Shelter located at 14807 Bristow Rd.  The dog park has two separate areas (one for small-medium dogs and one for large dogs) and is available to be utilized by the community with their dogs during the following hours daily: 

Public Hours:  10:00am-1:00pm and 3:00pm-dusk   (CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE)

The park is closed to the public during the following times so that it can be utilized by staff and/or volunteers to provide exercise to adoptable dogs within the Shelter:

Animal Shelter hours:  7:00am-10:00am and 1:00pm-3:00pm

Any person who is planning to enter the dog park area should be aware of the rules prior to entering.  All dogs entering the park should be over 4 months of age, up to date on vaccinations, show no signs of injury or illness and have not displayed any types of aggressive behavior towards other dogs or humans.

RULES TO FOLLOW

1. No smoking at any time in or near the dog park

2. The dog park is for the use of handlers and their dogs only.  No other types of animals are permitted.

3. Dogs must be on a leash when entering or exiting the dog park, including the common area.

4. Dogs must be in the view of and under the control of the handler at all times

5. Handlers must have the leash in hand at all times

6. Handlers must be in the dog park area that their dog is off-leash at all times

7. Maximum of two (2) dogs per handler.  The use of electronic devices is prohibited in the dog park.

8. All dogs must have a current rabies vaccination and county dog license

9. No choke, prong or spike collars

10. Dog handlers must be at least sixteen (16) years of age

11. Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult

12. Children 8 years old and under are not permitted in the dog park

13. Handlers must "scoop the poop" and fill in any holes dug by their dog(s)

14. No aggressive dogs allowed.  At the first sign of aggression, the dog must be leashed and removed from the park.

15. Handlers are responsible for any injuries caused by the dog(s) under their control

16. Use of the facility is at your own risk,

17. Due to the unpredictable nature of animals, owners should pay full attention to their dog(s) at all times and use good judgment when allowing animals to interact with each other Failure to abide by the rules may result in loss of privileges
