Central Library's Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Ushers in A New Look, Same Commitment to the Community
New layout will offer increased comfort, enjoyment

(November 18, 2020) Manassas, VA – A small gathering, including local dignitaries, library officials, and staff, attended the ribbon cutting ceremony of Central Library on Wednesday, November 18. Held outside the well-known building, presenters shared opening remarks, then invited attendees to tour the facility – an entirely different Central Library since it closed in early 2020 for extensive renovations.

Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) continues to enhance its buildings to create functional, inviting spaces for the greater Prince William community. Walls have been broken down and the interior has been completely redesigned to offer more open space for programming and general enjoyment.

"Today marks a new, exciting chapter for Central Library and Prince William Public Libraries," remarked Chair Ann B. Wheeler, Prince William Board of County Supervisors. "It represents a continuation in fulfilling Prince William Public Libraries' mission of bringing people, information, and ideas together to enrich lives and build community in a welcoming, inclusive environment."

In addition to physical changes to Central Library, the renovation allows for enhanced services and programming. After more than 25 years, RELIC, focusing on local history and genealogy, has been moved back to Central Library from Bull Run Library. Central houses PWPL's first Makerspace Lab, Studio 8601. Makerspace Studio 8601 that has 3-D Printers; Cricut machines; 3-D laser cutters; sewing, embroidery machines, and even a loom; virtual reality headsets; AV recording equipment; scanners and Media Conversion Technology; various art supplies, textiles, and jewelry crafting; tech and coding toys. For more information on Makerspace, call 703-792-8361 or click here.

"Central Library's renovation represents a commitment to bringing quality library services and welcoming space to Prince William's diverse community," said Deborah Wright, director of Prince William Public Libraries.

PWPL, through Central Library and its other 10 branches around the county, are committed to enhancing the patron's experience at the library, while also offering a virtual experience 24/7 through its Digital Library, pwcgov.org/digitallibrary.
