The Park Ranger Division of the Prince William County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism is responsible for the oversight of security practices and ensuring the safety of visitors in our Parks and the protection of park resources. The Park Ranger Division coordinates with the Prince William County Police Department, who have primary legal authority to enforce violations of criminal law, daily to assure security measures are maintained.
Park Rangers patrol our Parks and work with the public to educate them in the resources available, permit enforcement, and authorized activities.
These efforts are enumerated in the Prince William County Code Chapter 17- Parks and Recreation.
Park Rangers seek compliance with Prince William County Code, Chapter 17, through educating the public of a violation. Violators who repeatedly fail to comply with a Park Ranger's requests are subject to the issuance of a Trespass Notice. A Trespass Notice prohibits a violator from reentering Prince William County Parks for a specific period. This period ranges from 1-12 months, depending on the circumstances of the underlying offense.
