Virtual Community Housing Forum Scheduled for Nov. 3

The Metropolitan Washington Council of governments, or COG, will lead in a virtual community forum from 6 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 3 for residents to participate in Regional Housing Equity Plan, also known as the regional Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice, to provide input on housing issues they face.

Some of the barriers to fair housing include racial and ethnic segregation, segregated schools, neglected or underfunded schools in segregated neighborhoods, limited access to living wage opportunities, lacking access, or limited to public transportation and exposure to environmental hazards in the air, water of soil.

Prince William County has joined a project team of regional partners that include representatives and organizations from Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun counties and the city of Alexandria in Virginia, along with the District of Columbia, Montgomery County, and the city of Gaithersburg in Maryland.

The team includes a Public Fair Housing Authority Advisory Committee to represent stakeholders who might be affected by fair housing barriers. The advisory committee will also provide advice and recommendations to the project team during the planning process.
