Heavy Truck Extrication

HEAVY TRUCK EXTRICATION

The largest interstate highway on the East Coast passes through Prince William County.  Interstate 95 is the artery of commerce all along the East Coast, running from Florida to Maine.  Everything from produce to military equipment can be found on Prince William County’s Highways.  Interstate 66 takes travelers into the nation’s capital and can be just as crowded as I-95.  With these major interstates running through Price William County, the Department of Fire and Rescue is trained and ready to respond to major emergencies involving large tractor trailers and heavy machinery.

These complicated emergencies require technical skills and equipment. Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue’s Truck and Rescue companies handle these technical and challenging emergencies. Rescue 504 in Gainesville, is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Rescue 510, located on Dale Boulevard is staffed Monday through Friday from 6am until 6pm.  Three ladder trucks are staffed Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and play a valuable role in assisting the rescue companies with these complicated emergencies.

Many unique hazards are involved when dealing with large machinery and tractor trailer trucks.  Knowledge of rescue  equipment is a must and proper safety systems and training must be in place to accomplish a successful rescue of trapped occupants. Fire and Rescue personnel have responded to many of these incidents in its 45 year history and remain committed to the special challenges of Technical Rescue as we continue to provide our community with the best possible care.
