About Us

The County's Office of Emergency Management coordinates efforts to ensure that the County is able to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to and recover from any type of natural or human-caused disaster.  The County uses an all-hazards approach to emergency preparedness, which means that planning efforts consider all types of disasters that could occur in the County.

Emergency Management resides under the Department of Fire and Rescue. We work in collaboration with our whole community  partners, including the American Red Cross, Volunteer Prince William and many others in order to help achieve implementation of the Emergency Management Standard.

In addition to emergency planning and coordinating, we also:

  • Maintain the PWC Emergency Operations Center (EOC)

  • Oversee the PWC Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and Hazard Mitigation Plan

  • Facilitate training and exercise programs on intra-agency, inter-agency and multi-jurisdictional levels

  • Manage Homeland Security grants from the federal government

  • Manage emergency notifications and alerts to the public as well as County employees

  • Develop, coordinate and implement public outreach programs to ensure a 'culture of preparedness' at the local level
