OmniRide to Host Public Mobility Council Meetings in December

OmniRide has been providing mobility services in Prince William County and the Northern Virginia region for more than three decades. The organization’s goal has always been to provide safe, reliable and flexible transportation options while helping to reduce regional congestion and improve air quality. OmniRide’s Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Program is committed to educating the public on the benefits of alternative transportation versus single-occupancy vehicles and providing information on those alternatives.

An important aspect of the OmniRide TDM Program is its Mobility Councils. OmniRide wanted to ensure that residents, community stakeholders, neighboring transit agencies and jurisdictions and employers were involved in the conversation about how to improve mobility in the greater Prince William Area. OmniRide has implemented three Mobility Councils to address this: Vanpool Council, Employer Council and Hispanic Council. Two of the councils will hold virtual meetings in December.

The Hispanic Council will meet on December 14 at 9 a.m. This council seeks to engage Hispanic-owned and operated businesses and community groups as well as the general public to help serve this growing portion of the OmniRide service area. The meetings discuss transportation options as they specifically pertain to the needs of the Hispanic community and opportunities to increase partnerships and help set agency policy so that OmniRide can better serve the community. To RSVP for the next Hispanic Council Meeting, email [email protected] by Monday, December 12. A link to the virtual meeting will be provided via email to all RSVP requests.

The Employer Council will hold its next meeting on December 15 at 9 a.m. This council seeks to engage employers, both large and small, within the OmniRide service area and advise them on how to improve access to their businesses and make it more desirable for their employees to work at companies in Prince William County by presenting transportation options, including awareness of bus routes, ridesharing and telework. To RSVP for the next Employer Council Meeting, email [email protected] by Monday, December 12. A link to the virtual meeting will be provided via email to all RSVP requests.

In addition to its mobility councils, the OmniRide TDM program also partners with other agencies on transportation planning and operating initiatives, ridesharing strategies, transportation planning studies, capital project management, policy analysis and regional coordination.

OmniRide is the operating name for the mobility services offered by the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC). In addition to TDM services, the organization provides Local bus service in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park; Express service for commuters along the I-95 and I-66 corridors to employment centers in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.; and Metro Express, which connects riders with Metro Stations.
