Red Cross Safety Certifications

Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

Age 16+

WSI candidates learn to teach all levels of American Red Cross swimming classes including Child & Parent and Learn to Swim levels. Candidates must be age 16+ by the last day of the class, must attend all classes, must be able to swim at skill Level 4 and successfully complete course work, written and water tests. Registration is required 3-week prior to class start date.

Water Safety Instructor Aide (ages 14+)

Learn to assist the water safety instructors as you learn to teach swimming. This is a great training course for teens and adults who are interested in a possible part-time position. Candidates must be age 14+, attend all classes, and be able to swim at skill Level 3 and successfully complete course work, written and water tests.

Babysitter Training I (ages 11-15)

The American Red Cross helps to develop skills in six critical areas: leadership, safety, safe play, basic care, first aid and professionalism. The class is 8 hours in length and participants receive official Red Cross training materials (Babysitters training handbook, Babysitter training emergency reference guide and Babysitter training CD-ROM.

Babysitter Training II (ages 11-15)

Interested individuals must have completed Babysitter I training. This class builds upon the skills learned in the Level I class. In addition, candidates will earn their Child/Infant CPR and First Aid certificate. Participants must be able to successfully demonstrate all skills and pass a written test with a score of 80% or above. This class is 6-hours in length and participants must bring their Babysitter Handbook.
