Community Volunteers Step Up to Clean-Up Neabsco Creek Delta at the Featherstone National Wildlife Rescue

Prince William, VA. On November 12, fifteen volunteers representing thirteen community organizations came together to remove discarded tires and refuse from the Neabsco Creek delta at the southern tip of Featherstone National Wildlife Refuge.

A clean-up day had been scheduled for earlier in the spring but had to be postponed when a family of fledgling eagles were discovered nesting within feet of the tires. The situation was monitored through the summer and into the fall to ensure the eaglets protection.  November became the new target date.

In less than two hours, the volunteers removed 14 tires, 20 33-gallon trash bags of plastic bottles and general debris, including a metal seat from an old jeep frame that had made its way into the delta.  The Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism arranged for the pick-up and appropriate disposal of the gathered trash.
