Today was an exciting day for those in the Brittany Neighborhood Park area in Dumfries. Prince William County Parks and Recreation Director, Seth Hendler-Voss and Potomac District Supervisor, Andrea O. Bailey, along with staff and community members came together to celebrate the recent park updates which include the conversion of one tennis court into two designated pickleball courts. Other updates to the park include freshly painted and paved basketball courts; and construction of ADA-compliant walkways.

“This project was made possible through the Board of County Supervisors support in appropriating ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds to improve existing parks,” stated Prince William County Parks and Recreation Director, Seth Hendler-Voss, at today’s rededication ceremony for the park. "This project is a great example to how we put that money to good use for elements that are really important to folks, such as being able to access the park if you have a disability, being able to get to different parts of the park with a baby stroller and being able to play safely on a court without cracks.”

“We’re very grateful to Chair Wheeler, Supervisor Bailey and the Board of County Supervisors and County Executive’s office for their forward thinking and making sure we’re investing dollars smartly in our park system to make sure we deliver on our promise for our customers,” added Hendler-Voss.

Potomac District Supervisor, Andrea O. Bailey, also addressed the crowd.

“It’s a great day for pickleball!” stated Supervisor Bailey. “For the visitors here today, this is the place to be today. Everything that is happening across the county started in the Potomac District and moved west, and we need to be proud of that.”

Supervisor Bailey went on to thank all those in attendance for their hard work and support, including Parks staff, her staff and neighbors in the Brittany area.

The Board of County Supervisors Chair at-Large, Ann B. Wheeler, was also in attendance and recognized Supervisor Bailey for all her efforts for all the great things happening in the Potomac District.

“This is an excellent use of ARPA funds, and it is so important to make sure the parks that we have are maintained and that they’re pleasant and people want to come to them,” stated Chair Wheeler.
