Prince William County now offers Virtual Appointments to provide customers with ‘Early Assistance’ in Commercial Project Management, ’Quality Control Assistance” in Building Plan Intake and ‘Walk Through Plan Review’ with the Fire Marshal’s Office.
The work groups listed below provide virtual appointments. Virtual Appointments are not available for all permitting and development services, currently.
Virtual (video or phone) appointments are hosted via Qmatic on Microsoft Teams. Click on the applicable tabs below to view appointment options:
Customers in need of assistance will receive an email notifying them to schedule a Virtual Appointment and an appointment link. Appointments can be scheduled up to 30 days in advance.
To schedule an appointment:
Once your appointment is scheduled you will receive an email and text confirmation. The day before your appointment you will receive an email and text reminder with a link to click to “check in” within 15 minutes of your appointment time.
You may use a computer, tablet or smartphone with internet access to join the meeting via Microsoft Teams.

These virtual appointments are used for fire sprinkler systems, fire alarms, and any other alternative fire extinguishing system. The complexity and scope of the project determine if a plan qualifies for virtual review.
Types of plans that qualify for virtual appointments, include:
All submitted plans must be quality control approved through the Department of Development Services, Building Development Division’s Plan Intake, prior to scheduling a virtual appointment. Minor revisions are allowed if they meet the above criteria and identify the scope of the changes with “clouding.” The Designer of record must be present during the session. The Fire Marshal will inform the customer during the video call if the plan is approved or requires revisions.
