Prince William County Launches Interactive Data Center Map to Improve Public Access to Development Information

Prince William County recently launched a countywide interactive map that allows residents, property owners, county staff and other stakeholders to easily track data center projects at every stage of development, from pending land use applications to projects under construction and completed facilities.
The map is available through two platforms: County Mapper and the Planning Office’s Online Build-Out Analysis dashboard.
Users can explore projects by turning on Data Center Buildings and Data Center Campuses map layers individually or together.
Interactive data tables, available within the Build-Out Analysis dashboard, include separate tabs for campuses and buildings, allowing users to sort and filter projects by key details. The data tables also provide additional detail on data center buildings and campuses and can be filtered or sorted by column.
“The data center map provides a variety of interactive information for the public on data center projects in Prince William County at various stages of development,” said Prince William County Planning Director Tanya Washington.
Both platforms feature pop-up windows with project-specific details such as acreage, location, development status, planned square footage, zoning classifications and associated zoning case numbers.
The Prince William County Planning Office, Department of Development Services, along with the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, collaborated on the map production and project information. The Department of Information Technology assisted with data compilation and updates for the map.
“Community members and members of the Board of County Supervisors have expressed interest in accessing map and project information about data center development in the county,” Washington said. “Producing the map and data tables required combining multiple data sources from multiple county departments to ensure we could provide a comprehensive view of data center development.”
The map and data tables will be updated on an ongoing basis as projects get approved at various stages of development, ensuring the public has access to the most current information available.
“This map gives residents and decision-makers a clearer, more accessible way to see where data center projects are in the development process,” said Prince William County Executive Chris Shorter. “By bringing information from multiple departments into one interactive tool, we’re making it easier for the community to understand what’s happening, ask informed questions and stay engaged as the county plans for future growth.”
