Parking Enforcement Services

Parking complaints are one of the most common complaints received by the Department and we ask residents for your patience as these matters are prioritized and addressed. More information on common neighborhood vehicle issues can be found on the Neighborhood Services website.

Effective October 1, 2026, in accordance with existing state law and county ordinance, the Prince William County Police Department will tow vehicles with three or more unpaid parking citations. While the law grants the police and parking officials the authority to tow vehicles that have accumulated three or more unpaid parking citations, the ultimate goal of this initiative is to gain voluntary compliance that holds vehicle owners accountable for their infractions. Any vehicle owner who has multiple citations, can contact the police department’s Licensing Section to arrange a payment plan. Vehicle owners who opt into and comply with the terms of their payment plan will not be towed. Existing stipulations regarding warnings and the immediate removal of vehicles posing safety or traffic issues remain unchanged.

Resources and additional information regarding this initiative are provided below.

BEFORE CONTACTING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT REGARDING A PARKING ISSUE, IS THE VEHICLE BLOCKING TRAFFIC OR POSING A SAFETY ISSUE?

  • If your complaint involves a vehicle obstructing traffic or posing a safety risk to pedestrians or bicyclists, or involves vehicles parked in a manner obstructing a fire hydrant, fire lane, or marked handicapped space, please contact the non-emergency line by calling (703) 792-6500 so a patrol officer can respond. These complaints require immediate attention.

  • Other complaints, such as vehicles with expired inspection or registration, or those regarding illegally parked vehicles, abandoned vehicles, commercial vehicles that are illegally parked in residential areas, as well as boats, RVs, trailers and other large items that may be parked in violation of County laws, are considered lower priority and will be addressed as soon as possible.

In these cases, residents should contact the Parking Enforcement line by calling (703) 792-8536, or email. The parking enforcement line is not a monitored line, residents are asked to leave a brief description of the concern, including a vehicle description, and the specific location of where the vehicle is parked.
