Legislative Committee

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors Legislative Committee was established on June 3, 2025, via Res. No. 25-330, as a standing committee of the whole Board.  The Legislative Committee will serve as a collaborative forum in which timely and relevant information on legislative matters is presented, recommendations regarding the Board’s annual legislative agenda are discussed, and conversations to help align advocacy efforts with the County’s strategic priorities occur.

The Legislative Committee will focus on key policy areas, including land use, transportation, public safety, and government operations to ensure that state and federal legislative actions support the County’s long-term goals and community needs.

The Legislative Committee will receive information regarding federal and state legislative matters and may make recommendations to the Board of County Supervisors (Board) for its consideration and action.  The Legislative Committee is a separate and distinct public body and will not take action that binds or attempts to bind the Board, will not take action that amends or attempts to amend prior action of the Board, such as the Board’s adopted legislative agenda, and will not take action that supports or opposes a specific bill on behalf of the Board.  The Board will continue to be the suitable body to make decisions and/or take positions at a properly scheduled meeting.

The Legislative Committee is a public body under FOIA and all meetings shall be open to the public.  In an effort to keep members of the Legislative Committee and the general public informed, Legislative Committee meeting dates may be announced the Chair of the Legislative Committee during regular meetings of the Board and shared through appropriate channels, in addition to the public notice required by FOIA.

Meetings will be held in the Board Chambers at the McCoart Administration Building, unless otherwise noted.
