Spring Walk in the Woods: Tech and Trees
A springtime walk with experts from Prince William County, discussing recent land use impacts at historic Bristoe Station Battlefield.
What's going on in the woods in Prince William County VA, sometimes considered part of the "data center alley" development boom? Join a hike with local experts to discover some of the impacts of development on our land and water in the region.
County Arborist William Shoup will be our walk leader for the afternoon, and will highlight recent efforts to preserve the historic and natural character of the parkland. You will also have the opportunity to get your hands in the dirt by removing some invasive vines or planting a few trees in order to make a difference!
We will be walking about 3 miles on gravel and natural terrain with some gentle slopes.
A few important items to note:
- Wear sturdy hiking shoes, dress for the weather, and bring a snack and water (there is no potable water during the hike). Sun protection (hat, SPF, etc.) are highly suggested as shade will be limited in some spots.
- Registration is required as space is limited. Please cancel your registration if you cannot attend so that we can open the spot for someone else.
- Please note there are no restroom concessions or camping facilities available on-site.
- We should return to our starting place by 2:00 PM
- Each participant will be required to complete the following form (copies will be available at the beginning of the hike): https://www.potomacriver.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Liability-Waiver-and-Medical-Form_2020.pdf
- You will be notified by email if the event is delayed due to weather. Light drizzle = still on, thunderstorms = postponement.
