The Prince William County Department of Development Services is proud to announce a major milestone in customer service: celebrating 3,000 small business owners who were served by the Small Business Project Management (SBPM) Program.

This achievement highlights the County’s commitment to fostering a robust, diverse local economy by supporting startups, entrepreneurs, and businesses with 35 employees or fewer across all sectors—from service-based enterprises to eCommerce.

“These results demonstrate the importance of strategic changes made by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors over recent years,” said Ricky O’Connor, Acting Director, Department of Development Services. "We’re committed to business ownership by providing entrepreneurs dedicated access to expertise, resources, and ongoing support to achieve their goals.”

Empowering Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses
Navigating the commercial real estate and building permitting process can be daunting. The SBPM program is specifically designed to help entrepreneurs through the complexities of government regulations.

By partnering with the SBPM program, local small business owners benefit from:

  • Dedicated Expertise: Personalized guidance from specialized project managers who help business owners prepare for building and permit requirements.
  • Streamlined Operations: Assistance in charting a roadmap to achieve timely project milestones so owners can focus on business growth, marketing, workforce recruitment, and customer acquisition.
  • Network Connections: Facilitating community and business relationships to ensure a smoother, more agile launch phase.

"This success is a significant achievement that was made possible through our partnership approach with the business community," O’Connor added. "As more businesses receive these services, the trust built with our experts and the prosperity of the business community will increase the quality of life for residents and pave the way forward for future entrepreneurs."

About the Small Business Project Management Program
Launched in October 2018, the SBPM Program was funded by the Prince William County Board of County Supervisors to enhance the level of services for startups and entrepreneurs. The County recognizes that real estate decisions are critical to a business's financial health, community integration, and operational success.
