The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently proclaimed March 2023 as Irish American Heritage Month to recognize the Irish Americans who played an important part in creating the fabric of the country’s history through their service in the government and military and through their cultural values.

Millions of Americans trace their roots to Ireland’s shores, and early Irish immigrants have endured many hardships to build new lives in our county.

Irish immigrants have transformed the country’s largest cities into centers of commerce and industry and made significant cultural, spiritual and economic contributions that add to the diversity of the United States.

Today untold Americans of Irish descent continue to play a vital role in shaping the history and culture, enriching all aspects of life in the United States.

The Prince William County Government hopes the community will take the time this coming month to learn and engage with Irish American history in our community.
