Did you know that July is Park and Recreation Month? Created by the National Recreation and Park Association, Park and Recreation Month serves to highlight the essential and powerful role local park and recreation programs play in building stronger, more vibrant and more resilient communities all across the country. Launched in 1985, this year marks the 40th anniversary of Park and Recreation Month! This year’s theme is “Build Together, Play Together!” and we invite you to celebrate with us by exploring our many programs, events and activities happening throughout the month.

Amphitheater Shows
Did you know that Prince William County Parks and Recreation has an amphitheater? The Jean C. Smith Amphitheater is located at Locust Shade Park and presents family entertainment during the late spring and summer months. The amphitheater has bench seating that is protected by a shade structure with additional seating available on the gently sloping grass area.
July offers a variety of shows coming to the amphitheater—we’ve got puppets, reptiles, a magic show, and a free music performance. Check out all the details here.
Fitness
Want to focus on your fitness? Our popular Pilates Reformer Foundations class starting July 7 still has spots available. Or if you’re looking for something a little simpler to get your started, then check out our Walk with a Doc series. Each Walk with a Doc event is led by a healthcare provider who spends a few minutes talking about a relevant health topic. The walks are also an incredible opportunity for community members to connect, learn from each other, and celebrate both similarities and differences. These social connections are critical for a long and healthy life. Walkers should meet at the front desk at Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center, Thursday, July 24, 12 pm – 1 pm.
If you’ve been thinking about purchasing a membership to really dial in on your fitness goals, now is the perfect time. Our Summer Pass Sale ends Monday, June 30. Click here for all the details to get your discounted pass while it lasts.
