“We believe this latest improvement to the Shell Building Process will not only enhance productivity but also foster a better experience for all involved in the construction process,” shared Mandi Spina, Director, Department of Development Services. “By empowering our customers, we are increasing our support to Prince William County business owners.”
The ongoing improvements to the permitting process are intended to help facilitate a more efficient construction workflow, while ensuring compliance to the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC). Under the Virginia Construction Code, the Building Official has the authority to issue permits for the construction of foundations and other structural elements even before the complete construction documents for the entire building have been submitted. As long as the necessary information and detailed statements are provided to demonstrate compliance with the relevant code requirements, contractors can begin work at their own risk, paving the way for timely project advancements.
