Good Sports Award Presented to Seven Individuals from Prince William County

Prince William County is excited to announce that seven outstanding individuals involved in athletics in the county have been recognized by the Mid-Atlantic Recreation and Parks Sports Alliance with their Good Sports Award. Prince William County Parks and Recreation is a proud member organization of MARPSA which recognizes individuals through its Dennis Callahan Good Sports Awards program in four different categories—youth athletes; coaches; administrators; and officials. The awards were presented at the March 18 Parks Commission meeting.
This year’s awardees are: Owen Morris, athlete, Miracle League of Prince William County; Julian Harris, athlete, Eastern Prince William Basketball Association; Anthony Williams, coach, Eastern Prince William Basketball Association; Jason Whitaker, coach, Miracle League of Prince William County; Shannon Johnson, administrator, Virginia Soccer Association; Ralph Sinnott, administrator, PWC Girls Softball Little League; and Cathy Hereford, administrator, PWC Girls Fastpitch Softball League.
The Good Sports Awards are a MARPSA sponsored program providing an opportunity for member jurisdictions to recognize young athletes, coaches and administrators who have modeled “good sports” actions and behaviors in local athletics. The Good Sports Award is named after Dennis Callahan, co-founder of MARPSA and former Director of Anne Arundel County's Parks and Recreation department.
“It’s a privilege to recognize these outstanding individuals for their contributions to our local sports community,” said Mac Slover, Vice President of MARPSA. “Each awardee exemplifies the values of sportsmanship and excellence that define athletics in Prince William County.”
The mission of MARPSA is to develop and communicate a consistent message that organizations and their players, coaches and spectators will be held accountable to a code of conduct that promotes “good sports” and keeps recreational competitive and non-competitive sporting activities in proper perspective.
The Mid-Atlantic Recreation and Parks Sports Alliance is a consortium of Recreation and Parks departments, sports officiating groups, and sport governing bodies in the region.
