Prince William Area Agency on Aging Launches Senior Center Without Walls Program

The Prince William Area Agency on Aging has launched Senior Center Without Walls, a new program designed to bring senior center services directly into neighborhoods across the county. The pilot program began in March and will run through June.
The flexible, pop-up model delivers the quality and structure of the Manassas and Woodbridge senior centers through community-based locations, making programs more accessible to older adults who may face transportation or mobility challenges.
“Instead of asking older adults to travel to one central building, we will bring senior center programming directly into neighborhoods across Prince William,” said Area Agency on Aging Acting Director Joshua Lee. “We will track participation, gather feedback and adjust before expanding the program.”
Each pop-up event during the initial pilot phase will serve approximately 20 to 30 participants and may include fitness classes, nutrition or health education sessions, and social or recreational activities. Programs are expected to last about half a day.
Programming will be delivered by current staff from the Woodbridge and Manassas senior centers to ensure consistency and quality.
The concept grew from the agency’s success in delivering services outside traditional center settings.
Senior Center Without Walls directly supports several focus areas of the Prince William County 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, including Service Delivery by expanding how and where services are offered, Quality of Life by promoting healthy aging and community engagement and Government by innovating service delivery to meet resident needs. The program is designed to complement, not replace, existing senior centers, which will continue to serve as key community hubs.
“Senior Center Without Walls expands our reach,” Lee said. “This is about inclusion, access and listening to residents. We will continue to evaluate, adapt and improve the program.”
