Prince William County Announces Strategic Reorganization of Zoning Counter Services to Boost Efficiency

single news

The Prince William County Department of Development Services today announced a strategic internal reorganization designed to centralize operations and improve service efficiency. Effective November 2, 2026, Zoning Counter Services will officially transition into the Zoning Administration Division.

This restructuring aligns zoning operations, policies, and procedures directly under the Zoning Administrator, who holds ultimate authority to interpret and enforce the County’s Zoning Ordinance. By consolidating core customer service and resource functions, the realignment will streamline operations, ensure more consistent experiences for applicants, and give frontline staff the direct support they need to make timely, informed decisions.

"Our goal is to improve efficiency and customer service by aligning responsibility and authority for issuing Zoning Approvals,” said Ricky O’Connor, Acting Director, Department of Development Services.

The reorganization will require no changes to public-facing zoning counters or online zoning and permitting applications. Staff reassignments are entirely internal, ensuring zero service interruptions for residents, businesses, and local contractors. All existing contact information and processing channels remain unchanged.
