Prince William County Earns National Excellence in Procurement Award

The Prince William County Office of Procurement Services has earned the 2026 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement (AEP) Award from the National Procurement Institute, Inc. The award recognizes innovation, professionalism, productivity, leadership and e-procurement practices, highlighting the County's commitment to excellence in public procurement. 

“The AEP award reflects our dedication to delivering quality procurement services,” said Prince William County Chief Procurement Officer Shana Terry. “This recognition underscores our commitment to value, transparency and strategic impact across the county.” 

The award recognizes procurement practices that strengthen government operations while benefiting residents by maximizing taxpayer dollars, promoting transparency, and making it easier for businesses to work with the county. 

“The rigorous evaluation process includes an independent review of the County's procurement policy and procedures, and ranking them against the best practices, standards and benchmarks for public procurement,” Terry said. “I am honored that we received this distinguished award and excited to build on this success as we advance our commitment to procurement excellence.”   

“This recognition reflects the exceptional work of our procurement team and their commitment to serving our residents and business community,” said County Executive Chris Shorter. “Their efforts over the past year and beyond have strengthened transparency, enhanced competition, and ensured responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. I am proud of their continued dedication to excellence and service to Prince William County.” 

The AEP Award, established in 1995, is open to all public and nonprofit organizations. The program’s comprehensive evaluation criteria promote continuous improvement and recognize procurement as a vital contributor to effective governance. 

“The 2026 AEP Award reflects the extraordinary commitment of procurement professionals who are driving performance, accountability and strategic value for their agencies,” said National Procurement Institute’s Carrie Mathes. “This year’s record participation and new milestones are a testament to the growing recognition of procurement as a critical function in public service.”
