Prince William County government is excited to announce the launch of its inaugural internship program. The program provides a paid internship to selected students who are enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education and is designed to give college students interested in public service the opportunity to gain invaluable experience and expand their knowledge regarding local government. Throughout the internship, students will be presented professional development opportunities, such as skills and leadership training, mentoring, networking with executive leadership, field excursions, short-term projects and hands-on experience that will equip them with the necessary skills, tools and resources for long-term success.

Applications are now open for the eight-week program, which will run from May 20 to July 11, 2024. Prospective interns can apply for the program by accessing the application on the county’s website. The deadline for applications is March 16, 2024.

County Executive Chris Shorter expressed his enthusiasm about the launch of the internship program.

"This program will play a significant role in unlocking the potential of our future leaders by providing them with practical experience in public service and expanding their knowledge,” said Shorter. “It is also critical in creating a diverse talent pipeline of individuals who have a passion to serve, which will ultimately help to better serve our community."
