Weldon is a seasoned finance and accounting executive, with more than 25 years of leadership experience in large, complex organizations. She most recently served as Chief Financial Officer for the Virginia Retirement System, or VRS, where she led a 55+-member Finance team overseeing procurement, investment and operations accounting, and major financial programs. Prior to that, she served as Controller for VRS, guiding the successful modernization of the agency’s accounting and payroll systems. Earlier in her career, she held senior roles in the private sector, including Director of Finance for Anthem (now Elevance Health), Vice President and Corporate Controller for Performance Fibers, and Director of Finance and Controller for Infineon Technologies, where she managed a $3 billion budget for the construction of new manufacturing and administrative facilities.

In her new role, Weldon will report to the County Executive and serve as a key member of the county’s executive leadership team. She will provide strategic oversight and direction for all Finance Department operations, including accounting, financial reporting, grant compliance, revenue cycle management, insurance, audits, payroll, self-insurance funds and policy development. The Finance Department also includes the Office of Management and Budget and Risk and Wellness Services.

“Leslie’s proven record of financial leadership and her ability to strengthen complex organizations make her an exceptional addition to our executive team,” said County Executive Chris Shorter. “Her experience guiding large-scale fiscal operations and commitment to collaboration will help us continue building a financially strong, transparent and forward-looking government.”

“I am excited to start this new path in my career journey by serving the people of Prince William County,” said Weldon. “This position balances my skillset with an opportunity for professional development, and I am grateful to the Board of County Supervisors and the County Executive for their support. I can’t wait to get started.”

A graduate of the Virginia Executive Institute and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Weldon is a member of the Government Finance Officers’ Association, Virginia Society of CPAs, Public Pension Financial Forum and the Controllers Executive Roundtable. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the Virginia Commonwealth University and Master of Business Administration from the University of Richmond.
