Prince William County Joins Farmers Markets Across the Country in Celebrating National Farmers Market Week 2022

It’s National Farmers Market Week (August 7-13), and we invite you to celebrate with us! Over the past year, our farmers market community has showcased resilience in our rapidly changing world. Farmers markets have always been a hub for innovation and connection, and that feels more important every year. But our farmers markets don’t just happen. Every week our farmers markets’ staff, volunteers, vendors and amazing customers come out to make sure that our farmers markets continue to serve as a hub for local food and connection in our community. More than ever before, National Farmers Market Week is an opportunity to showcase the value of farmers markets. And in Prince William County we’ve got some of the best of them.

Since 1987, Dale City Farmers Market has been at the forefront of serving Prince William County residents. With nearly 50 vendors in the summer and 20+ in the winter, it is one of the largest open-air markets in the region. And this year, the Dale City Farmers Market was once again voted ‘Best Agritourism Attraction/Event’ in Prince William County. This is the sixth year the market has won the award having previously won in 2015 through 2019.

“We have one of the most diverse markets in the area,” said Kim Dorman, who coordinates the farmers markets for Prince William County Parks, Recreation and Tourism. “In our market, you can find BBQ, Lebanese, Thai foods, and various drinks too.  Our customer base at Dale City Farmers Market is also very diverse – we are proud to bring diversity to our community.”

Currently the Dale City Farmers Market averages 2000-3000 people on Sunday alone.

“We’re lucky to have great staff who work hard to bring consistency to our vendors and customers and to make sure we provide a safe environment for all. We are also fortunate to have very loyal vendors who have been there since the beginning in 1987,” added Dorman.

You can visit the Dale City Farmers Market on Sundays through November 27, from 8 am – 1 pm, and then beginning December 4 – March 26, 2023, from 10 am – 1 pm.
Along with the Dale City Farmers Market, we also host the Prince William Farmers Market on Thursdays through November 17, from 3 – 7 pm.

Due to popular demand, the Prince William Farmers Market was launched in April this year at Pfitzner Stadium. Here you can find many of the same dedicated vendors as Dale City and delicious foods, other offerings and more.

You can view the vendor lists for both markets here.

Know Before You Go

Before heading to one of our markets, here are a few things to know:

  • No animals are allowed at both markets with the exception of service animals.
  • Masks are optional.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at vendor or market manager tables.
  • If you have any questions during your visit, please look for onsite market managers in the yellow safety vests.

How to Support Farmers Markets

We encourage you to support farmers markets not just this week but all year-round. Here are a couple ways you can show your support:

  • Shop regularly at your farmers market – and tell your friends to do the same! Follow all directions and guidelines for safety while at the market.
  • Share your love of farmers markets or a photo of your market ‘haul’ on social media. Use the #LoveMyMarket and #FarmersMarketWeek along with #PWCparks to share the bounty of the season on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Happy Farmers Market Week and happy shopping!
