Prince William County Offers Cooling Assistance Through State Energy Program

single news

The Prince William County Department of Social Services, or DSS, is now accepting applications for the Virginia Energy Assistance Program’s Cooling Assistance initiative. The program, available now through August 15, helps qualifying households offset the cost of keeping their homes cool during the hot summer months.

DSS administers this critical program locally, connecting eligible county residents with assistance that may cover:

  • Electric bill payments to operate cooling equipment
  • Repair or purchase of air conditioning units
  • Security deposits for utility service
  • One-time purchase and installation of central or window AC units

To qualify, households must have a gross income at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty level and include at least one vulnerable individual—an adult age 60 or older, a child under 6 or a person with a disability.

Residents can apply, check application status or submit required documentation in any of the following ways:

  • Online: commonhelp.virginia.gov
  • Phone: Call 1-855-635-4370 (Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
  • Email: [email protected]
  • Fax: 1-833-677-1482
  • Mail or Drop-off:
    • 7987 Ashton Ave., Suite 200, Manassas, VA 20109
    • 15941 Donald Curtis Dr., Suite 180, Woodbridge, VA 22191

This seasonal assistance plays a vital role in protecting the health and well-being of some of the county’s most vulnerable residents.
