single news

Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) has been awarded a Gold MarCom Award for its “Visit Prince William Public LiBEARies” video that promotes PWPL’s resources with creative wordplay and some beary cute characters. PWPL also received an Honorable Mention for its “No Pets Allowed at Central Green” video. Both entries were judged in the Video/Audio Category.

MarCom Awards is an international creative competition that honors excellence in marketing and communication. MarCom recognizes outstanding achievement by creative professionals involved in the concept, direction, design, and production of marketing and communication materials and programs. Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry.

PWPL was among early deadline winners. There were over 6,000 entries from United States, Canada, and 43 other countries. All results will be posted by November 1. MarCom is sponsored and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals (AMCP).

In 2022, PWPL received six other marketing and communications awards – a PR Xchange Award from the American Library Association (ALA) for the “PWPL’s Wi-Fi Has Left the Building!” video;  two Hermes Creative Awards, a Gold Award for the Strategic Marketing Campaign “PWPL Brand Drives the Miles” and Honorable Mention for Electronic Media/Social Media/YouTube Video “PWPL’s Wi-Fi Has Left the Building!”; and three dotCOMM Awards, a Platinum Award for PWPL’s 2021 Annual Report, a Gold Award for Summer 2021 Explore Magazine, and an Honorable Mention for “PWPL’s Wi-Fi Has Left the Building!” video.

“The creative team in Prince William Public Libraries’ Office of Communications and Marketing are constantly innovating to present strategic deliverables that will resonate with the public,” remarks PWPL Director Deborah Wright. “Their success this past year securing these prestigious awards is a testament not only to their professional standard of excellence, but to all library staff who continue to offer quality resources, services, and programs, making it that much easier to produce award-winning messaging.”

PWPL’s Office of Communications and Marketing develops communications campaigns designed to share PWPL resources and information with the greater Prince William community and showcase PWPL’s achievements in fulfilling its mission of bringing people, information, and ideas together to enrich lives and build community in a welcoming, inclusive environment. The office has writing, graphic design, media relations, digital communications and social media, and videography professionals.

"I am proud of the communications team. Effective strategic communications and marketing are key in helping everyone get access to information and resources. Our librarians are doing excellent work in continuously enhancing PWPL's services and helping community members on the front lines every day," comments Communications and Marketing Director Rachel Johnson. "However, without the non-librarian professionals behind the scenes, such as finance, technology, and communications experts, PWPL would not be able to offer such high-quality services."
