Prince William Public Libraries Recognized with Three dotCOMM Awards

single news

Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) has been awarded three dotCOMM Awards for digital communications campaigns designed to engage and share PWPL resources and information with the greater Prince William community. PWPL’s 2021 Annual Report received a Platinum Award – the highest honor awarded, Summer 2021 Explore Magazine received a Gold Award, and “PWPL’s Wi-Fi Has Left the Building!” video received an Honorable Mention.

dotCOMM Awards, administered by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP), is an international competition honoring excellence in web creativity and digital communication. Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. Typically, about 13 percent of entries win a Platinum Award. This year, dotCOMM received about 2,500 entries.

PWPL ’s Office of Communications and Marketing submitted three campaigns it had implemented this past year for consideration. PWPL’s 2021 Annual Report, awarded a Platinum Award in the Online Media Design category, presents PWPL’s accomplishments in a dynamic style, featuring attractive design elements. The recognition is of a high value to PWPL since this was PWPL’s first annual report.

PWPL also received a Gold Award for its digital Summer 2021 Explore Magazine in the Owned Media,  eMagazine category, and Honorable Mention for its video “PWPL’s Wi-Fi Has Left the Building!” in the Video, Nonprofit category. This lighthearted, yet impactful video follows “Wi-Fi” as she longs to get outside. The one-minute video’s goal was to demonstrate that PWPL’s Wi-Fi had been enhanced to extend strong Wi-Fi to library parking lots and provides the community with an in-building library experience using Wi-Fi, 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

PWPL’s marketing and communications professionals developed these campaigns to showcase PWPL’s achievements in fulfilling its mission of bringing people, information, and ideas together to enrich lives and build community in a welcoming, inclusive environment.

“We’ve been working diligently to reach goals outlined in our 2019 – 2023 Strategic Plan and address the need for future-ready, easily accessible technology, community-responsive enrichment, lifelong learning, and more. Promoting library services and resources to those who need them most is the cornerstone of our efforts. I am proud of our creative team, and we appreciate this recognition,” said Deborah Wright, library director.

This year, PWPL has also received a PR Xchange Award from the American Library Association (ALA) for the “PWPL’s Wi-Fi Has Left the Building!” video and two Hermes Creative Awards, a Gold Award for the Strategic Marketing Campaign “PWPL Brand Drives the Miles” and Honorable Mention for Electronic Media/Social Media/YouTube Video “PWPL’s Wi-Fi Has Left the Building!”
