Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) has been awarded two coveted Hermes Creative Awards, a Gold Award for its Strategic Marketing Campaign, “PWPL Brand Drives the Miles” and Honorable Mention for Electronic Media/Social Media/YouTube Video, “PWPL’s Wi-Fi Has Left the Building!”

Hermes Creative Awards is an international awards competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing, and design of traditional and emerging media. Hermes Creative Awards recognizes outstanding work in the industry while promoting the philanthropic nature of marketing and communications professionals. Of the more than 1,500 Gold Award winners, Prince William Public Libraries was only one of two library systems to be recognized, and the only library system in the United States.

PWPL’s Office of Communications and Marketing submitted two campaigns it had implemented this past year for consideration. “PWPL Brand Drives the Miles,” awarded a Gold Hermes Creative Award in the Strategic Marketing Campaign category, showcases a fleet of vehicles wrapped to display some of the most important services and resources PWPL has to offer. Using PWPL’s branded colors, the wraps are eye-catching, and the trucks stand out while driving around Prince William County, showcasing PWPL to the public, including new library users and those who may not yet be aware of PWPL. The trucks drive among 12 PWPL’s library branches and other community locations twice a day, distributing books and other materials. Considering the mileage driven, these trucks are an ideal promotional vehicle displaying PWPL brand and the services it provides.

“We are so proud of our creative team for their continued efforts to communicate, innovate, and strategize to promote Prince William Public Libraries as the hub connecting people to the transforming power of information,” comments Deborah Wright, library director. “These two campaigns are among the many communications strategies utilized to promote library services and resources to the greater Prince William community.”

PWPL also received Honorable Mention in the category of Electronic Media/Social Media/YouTube Video for its “PWPL’s Wi-Fi Has Left the Building!” Video. This lighthearted, yet impactful video follows “Wi-Fi” as she longs to get outside. The one-minute video’s goal was to introduce that PWPL’s Wi-Fi had been enhanced to extend strong Wi-Fi to library parking lots and provides the community with an in-building library experience using Wi-Fi, 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

Both “PWPL Brand Drives the Miles” and “PWPL’s Wi-Fi Has Left the Building!” are developed to promote system-wide efforts in achieving the organization’s Strategic Goals. Namely, they showcase how PWPL provides Future-Ready, Easily Accessible Technology, introduces Versatile, Inviting Spaces, and promotes PWPL’s Physical and Virtual Media Collections.
