PWC Installs Balloon Recycling Bins – Now Located in DSB & Central Library

single news

The Environmental Management Division of Public Works is proud to announce a new partnership with Clean Virginia Waterways (CVW) as we take part in their Balloon Recycling Program.

Balloons were ranked as the third deadliest type of ocean litter, right after abandoned fishing gear and plastic bags. To help do our part, PWC is joining Clean Virginia Waterways on their mission to recycle 1,000,000 balloons by 2028. They have provided two new balloon recycling bins. One has been installed near the entrance of the Central Library in Manassas and the other is located at 5 County Complex Ct in Woodbridge near the vestibule by the Tax Office inside the Development Services Building. They are now open for the public to deposit all different types of balloons.

County staff will empty the bins as needed and ship them to Terracycle, a company that specializes in innovating new ways to recycle materials that are typically too difficult or unprofitable to reuse. Each shipment will be weighed to track the total amount of balloons kept out of our local waste stream.

Please join us on our mission to keep balloons out of our local streams and waterways. For questions, please contact the Environmental Management Office at [email protected].
