Invocation Invitation

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors (Board) has traditionally begun its meetings with a moment of silence, or a legislative invocation/prayer given by a Board member or a local clergy member. The purpose of the prayer is to seek guidance for the Board in its public deliberation.

The Board provides an opportunity for religious leaders of any faith to offer an invocation at the Board meetings and invites religious leaders from all faiths to contact the Clerk to the Board at [email protected] if they are interested in serving as invocator at a Board meeting; view the Board’s 2022 meeting schedule.

The invocation led by a religious leader of the community need not be nonsectarian, however, it must not be used to proselytize or advance any one faith or belief or to disparage any other faith or belief.

Religious leaders will be selected on a “first-come, first-serve” basis. The Clerk will send a confirmation to each religious leader scheduled. Following confirmation from the Clerk, it is the responsibility of the volunteering religious leaders to remember their commitment to deliver the invocation ahead of each meeting and appear for their scheduled invocation date. For more information, please contact the Clerk to the Board at [email protected].
