Understanding ACEs to Increase Wellness and Resilience- National Prevention Week

07:00 PM - 08:30 PMAdd to Calendar
Virtual Event

Memories of our childhood experiences are stored in our bodies, not just our minds. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are traumatic childhood events, such as abuse and neglect, parental divorce, domestic violence, and parental mental illness, among others. Experiencing an ACE or other developmental trauma can increase the odds of developing serious adult health issues like depression, cancer, liver disease, and heart disease. ACEs can also make people more likely to experience suicide, homelessness, substance abuse, poor work performance, and other negative outcomes. A trauma-informed perspective and approach to care can alleviate the negative impacts brought on by ACEs and significantly improve health and behavioral outcomes. The training concludes with a look at how we can all provide hope and meaningful connections to develop and increase wellness and resilience in ourselves and others
