Businesses Must File Recycling Report by October 15

single news

Businesses, including apartments, churches and charitable organizations in Prince William County, must complete and file an annual recycling report with the Department of Public Works by October 15, 2022.

Section 22-169 of the Prince William County Code requires all businesses and other non-residential properties that produce trash within the county to report on their activities by October 15. Home-based businesses do not have to file a recycling report. Businesses located within the incorporated towns of Dumfries, Haymarket, Occoquan or Quantico do not have to file a recycling report.

This information is required each year so that Prince William County can comply with the Commonwealth’s annual recycling reporting requirements. The Prince William County Business Recycling Report may be completed online by the person most familiar with trash and recycling disposal. The report will take about 10 minutes to complete. The report form is accessible to complete online at pwcva.gov/businessrecyclingIndividuals can also receive a direct link to the report by emailing [email protected].

For calendar year 2020, the most recent year data is available, the county’s recycling rate was 33.5 percent. This was almost a five percent decline from 2019. The Solid Waste Division expects an improvement in the 2021 report because of the new yard waste program, which began in October 2021 as a separate collection and the community’s growing participation in the glass recycling program.

The Solid Waste Division encourages businesses and residents to "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle" waste appropriately to help conserve natural resources and landfill capacity for future generations.
