Prince William County Department of Transportation has completed the Old Bridge Road Sidewalk Project, enhancing pedestrian safety and access along a busy corridor in the Occoquan District. The project added approximately 700 feet of new sidewalk on the north side of Old Bridge Road, between Oakwood Drive and Forest Hill Road.
The new sidewalk connects residential neighborhoods with three nearby schools, a future park and greenway trailhead, a community pool, sports courts and the Lake Ridge Homeowners Association offices—providing safer, more direct access to key destinations for residents without cars.
“Two decades ago, Prince William County was built as a bedroom community that’s car-centric, but we’re working hard to fix that,” said Occoquan District Supervisor Kenny Boddye. “It’s often challenging and expensive work, but it’s vital for providing more connectivity and safety for everyone in our community. Step by step, sidewalk by sidewalk, we’re building a community that puts people first.”
The $1.6 million project was funded through a combination of federal and local dollars. Dewberry Engineers Inc. began design work in Summer 2021, and construction led by M&F Concrete Inc. began in October 2024.
This infrastructure improvement supports the county’s Mobility Strategic Plan goal to deliver a comprehensive, accessible and multimodal transportation network, reflecting Prince William County’s broader efforts to invest equitably in safer, people-centered infrastructure.
Boddye praised the county’s Department of Transportation for its forward-thinking approach.
“What’s also great is our team at Transportation is excellent at finding more opportunities to connect these networks and secure outside funding to do so.”
