Join Us in Celebrating Building Safety Month this May!

When we step into our homes, schools, or local businesses, we often take for granted that the walls are sturdy, the wiring is safe, and the exits are clear. This peace of mind is made possible by modern building codes and the dedicated professionals who enforce them.
This May, Prince William County Department of Development Services is proud to join the International Code Council and communities worldwide to celebrate Building Safety Month.
Throughout the month, we are focusing on four key areas that keep our community thriving:
- May 1–10: Safe Homes, Strong Communities – Discover simple steps you can take to improve safety in your own home.
- May 11–17: Voices of the Built Environment – Meet the building safety professionals who work behind the scenes to protect us.
- May 18–24: Prepared to Protect – Learn how disaster-resilient codes protect your property from fire and extreme weather.
- May 25–31: Communities Without Limits – Exploring the vital role of accessibility in modern construction and design.
In our County, safety is a team effort. We want to thank the Department of Development Services, Department of Public Works, and the Fire Marshal’s Office for their year-round commitment to acting as our "first preventers" in mitigating disasters.
We encourage you to join the conversation online. Share your safety tips or thank a local official using the hashtag #BuildingSafety365.
For more information on building codes and how you can participate, please visit Building Safety Month webpage or reach out to our local county offices at [email protected] or tel (703) 792-6930.
Together, we can ensure Prince William County remains a safe place to live, learn, work, and grow.
