Office of Community Safety Joins Prince William County Police for National Night Out – Bringing neighbors and police together to build relationships, strengthen trust, and make our neighborhoods safer and more connected.

On August 5th, the Office of Community Safety proudly joined the Prince William County Police Department for the annual National Night Out, an event dedicated to strengthening community relationships and fostering a sense of shared responsibility for public safety.

The event aligns with OCS’ vision for the community - moving beyond policing alone and toward a broader, community-driven approach to safety.

Throughout the evening, the motorcade visited neighborhoods across the county, greeting families, engaging with youth, and sharing information about community resources, violence prevention, mental health support, and opportunities for civic involvement.

“Community safety isn’t just about responding to harm, it’s about fostering resilience and connectivity in our neighborhoods through resources and collaboration,”  said Dr. Tauheeda Yasin, the Director of the Office. National Night Out was a great opportunity for OCS to collaborate with police and get to know the communities we serve.

By collaborating with law enforcement and community leaders during National Night Out, the Office of Community Safety is helping to reshape how safety is defined—one rooted in connection, communication, and care.

National Night Out amplifies OCS’s unique perspective, focusing on prevention, partnership, and engagement with residents, youth, and local organizations.

This year’s participation serves as a reminder that community safety is everyone’s responsibility—and that trust is built one conversation at a time.
