Fall is right around the corner, which means so are cooler temperatures and beautiful fall landscapes that the season brings. We invite you to adventure outside with us for some fall outdoor fun and exploration. Here are five outdoor programs we think you might like.
Winged Wonders: Birding for Beginners
Have you ever wanted to learn more about the birds you see in our area? We can help get you started. In this program, you will learn about some of the more common birds that call the Neabsco Creek Boardwalk home. We'll begin the program learning some basic bird identification skills, then we'll head to the Boardwalk to see these feathered friends in one of the most beautiful places in Prince William County. Full Moon Hike
Grab your flashlights and join our park naturalists for a slow-paced VIP hike along the beautiful Neabsco Creek Boardwalk. You'll enjoy learning about the flora and fauna of the area, as well as some fascinating facts about the full moon. We'll finish our hike with a yummy s'more by the firepit! Hike will take place Saturday, September 6, 7-9 pm. This is a popular one so register early! All ages are welcome.
Survive Together
How are your survival skills? Want to learn more about surviving outdoors? Then sign up for our three-hour basic survival training program on Saturday, September 20, 1-4 pm at Silver Lake Park. You will learn essential skills like shelter building, compass navigation, first aid, water purification, and fire building, culminating in a smore's celebration. The program aims to equip parents/guardians and children (ages 9+) with fundamental survival skills, promoting teamwork and shared learning. Learn more and register here.
Twilight Trek
Join our park naturalists at the Neabsco Creek Boardwalk for another “Twilight Trek” on Saturday, October 11, 6:30-8:30 pm. This fun family program (all ages welcome) brings you up close and personal with some of the wetlands best known inhabitants—beavers, muskrat, deer, and other wetland critters. Then, meet back at our warm firepit for a warm, gooey s'more. Bring your phone/camera as this will be a night to remember! Register here.
Virginia Bird Calls
Come join us later this fall for more birding. Master Naturalist Candice Lowther will lead this program as she discusses some of the amazing bird species that call Virginia home. Then, listen and learn some of the familiar bird calls while you stroll through beautiful Veterans Memorial Park. Program takes place on Saturday, November 1, 8-10 am. For ages 4+.
