In 2022, 3,645 Prince William County volunteers contributed 291,138 hours to support county programs. The value of their time was the equivalent of 149 full-time staff, saving the county $8,719,575.

To recognize volunteer contributions, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently proclaimed April 16 – 22, 2023, as National Volunteer Week.

National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 to celebrate volunteers’ impact in their communities and inspire others to serve. Individuals and groups of volunteers play an important role in building a successful, strong and vibrant community by providing a critical role in county residents’ quality of life and well-being.

Agencies across Prince William County, including the Clerk of Circuit Court, Prince William Public Libraries, Area Agency on Aging, Prince William Health District, Police, Adult Detention Center, Fire and Rescue System, Parks, Recreation and Tourism, Office of Criminal Justice Services and Virginia Cooperative Extension Prince William, thrive with volunteer participation, increasing the number of residents who are touched by quality-of-life services and programs.

The board’s proclamation recognized and thanked all of the dedicated volunteers who lend time, talent, voice and support to causes they care about and urge all citizens of Prince William County to consider volunteering.
