Give Your Old Clothes and Shoes a New Purpose

single news

Instead of throwing away your old clothes and shoes, consider donating them!

Prince William County’s Landfill and County Compost Facility offer donation bins for clothing, shoes and textiles. The donation bins are in the convenience center area and are accessible during the facilities’ normal hours of operation.

Residents can put a variety of items in the bins. If a dress is no longer your style, your pants have piled up, or an item is no longer wearable, don’t toss it in the trash – donate it! When an item is no longer fit for wear, it can still be placed in the donation bin for recycling.

In addition, linens, apparel accessories, luggage and stuffed animals can also be donated. The only requirement, the items you donate must be clean, dry and odorless. A complete list is available on the Solid Waste Division Reduce and Reuse webpage.

This donation program is part of a partnership with ReClothing, LLC, also known as Helpsy. According to Helpsy, 85% of clothes end up in landfills, yet 95% of textiles can be given a second life. Half of them are reusable and 45% are recyclable. Textiles make up 10% of landfill waste, translating to 100 pounds per person per year. By using the donation bins at our convenience centers, you can help extend the lifespan of our landfill and contribute positively to the environment.
