Are you looking to get active in the new year? Then check out our active adult programs where you can show your creative side, learn something new, or focus on your fitness. Here’s what’s on tap for the winter and spring ahead.

Create Some Art
Join us at Pat White Center at Ben Lomond in 2026 for some fun painting classes! All materials will be provided.

On Friday, January 30 you can paint a cozy winter scene while you sip on some hot chocolate. Join with a friend or come alone and make some new ones! Whether you are new to painting or are a hobby painter, you will enjoy two hours of canvas creating and hot chocolate. Register today.

Come celebrate Valentine’s Day with us. Join us on Friday, February 13 to enjoy some snacks and refreshments while you paint a Valentine’s Day themed canvas. Click here to register.

Learn Something New
Want to educate yourself on dementia and Alzheimer’s disease? Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center has partnered with the Alzheimer's Association to offer a FREE educational program on Wednesday, January 7. The program covers basic information on the difference between Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, stages, risk factors, research, and FDA-approved treatments. *Program is free but registration is required. Starting Friday, January 23, adults ages 55+ can join us for a FREE 6-week workshop that helps adults living with chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, depression, heart, lung, or kidney disease, and fatigue. Attendees can expect to learn the following: practical symptom management techniques; how to work more effectively with health care providers; action-planning; problem-solving; decision-making; exercises for maintaining and improving strength and endurance; and healthy eating. This program is presented in partnership with Prince William Area Agency on Aging. *Program takes place at Pat White Center at Ben Lomond and is free, but you must register to attend. Get Moving
Start the new year off right with our free SAIL program (Stay Active and Independent for Life). Presented in partnership with the Prince William Area Agency on Aging, we’re offering a free 12-week strength-and-balance fitness program for older adults starting January 5. This hour-long program meets two times per week at Pat White Center at Ben Lomond. Participants will learn warm-up, aerobics, balance, strength-training, and stretching exercises that can be performed in a seated or standing position. These exercises are designed to improve strength, balance, fitness, mobility, and reduce fall risk. A pre-fitness test will be scheduled with the instructor at the first class. *Program is free, but you must register to attend. Register today.

In the spring, come join us at Silver Lake Park for our free 6-week Arthritis Foundation Walk with Ease Program, a community-based physical activity and self-management education program. This multi-component program starts each session with a pre-walk discussion covering a specified topic related to exercise and arthritis, followed by a 10 to 40-minute walk and includes a warm-up and a cool-down. This program will help in reducing pain and discomfort of arthritis, increase balance, strength and walking pace, build confidence in your ability to be physically active, improve overall health. *Program is free, but participants must register to attend. Have you ever wanted to try Tai Chi? Now is your chance. Tai Chi can be an effective exercise program for individuals with arthritis, as well as for falls prevention, particularly for older adults. Studies have shown that it can improve balance, increase strength and mobility, and even decrease pain associated with arthritis. Register today to join us at Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center for Tai Chi. Two sessions are available beginning in January and March.
