March Begins Separation and Collection of Yard Waste in Prince William County

The yard waste collection program in Prince William County resumes every March and continues through December. Curbside yard waste collection, separate from trash and recycling, occurs weekly. Trash and recycling service providers perform yard waste collection. Residents must place yard waste in biodegradable paper bags or containers labeled “Yard Waste.” Plastic bags are not appropriate for yard waste collection.
Residents, HOAs, and businesses should contact their trash and recycling haulers for information on yard waste collection days, provision of containers, and other account-specific details. Private waste haulers are not charged for yard waste delivered to the county’s Compost Facility for processing; however, customers may incur a yard waste collection service fee.
Residents may also bring yard waste and brush to the County Landfill, 14811 Dumfries, Manassas, VA, or the Compost Facility, 13000 Hansen Farm Road, Manassas, VA. Yard waste must be in paper bags, or it may be emptied from containers.
Yard waste is made into a soil amendment product/compost or mulch at the Compost Facility instead of being landfilled. This preserves landfill space, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and provides beneficial use of yard waste materials. Residents, landscapers, and garden centers can purchase compost and mulch products at both solid waste facilities. Visit www.convertusgroup.com/manassas/ for product and pricing information.
Guidelines on yard waste preparation and other details on this program, such as Christmas Tree collection during the first two weeks in January, are available at www.pwcva.gov/yardwaste.
