Prince William Board of County Supervisors Appoint Elijah Johnson as Acting County Executive

 

(Prince William, VA) - Prince William Board of County Supervisors appointed Deputy County Executive Elijah Johnson as the acting county executive effective January 1, 2022. This comes after the resignation of County Executive Chris Martino, which is effective December 31, 2021. Mr. Johnson currently serves as the Deputy County Executive for Human Services. Johnson is the first African American to serve in this capacity in Prince William County.

 

“It is an honor to continue to serve the staff, public, and stakeholders of Prince William County at this level. I will work to ensure a smooth transition of county services to continue to move the county forward,” said Johnson.

 

Mr. Johnson was appointed Deputy County Executive in October 2014. In this position, he is responsible for providing administrative oversight of Prince William County’s Human Services agencies, including Community Services, Area Agency on Aging, Office of Criminal Justice Services, Department of Social Services, and the Office of Housing and Community Development. He is also the liaison with the following state-supported human services agencies:  Prince William Area Public Health District, Juvenile Court Service Units, and Virginia Cooperative Extension and works with the many community organizations who provide invaluable service for Prince William County residents.

 

Prior to accepting his current position, Mr. Johnson served as Prince William County’s Director for the Office of Housing and Community Development (OHCD) for seven years. Prior to joining Prince William County, Mr. Johnson worked for Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority, Arlington County’s Department of Human Services Housing Office, and New York City Housing Authority. Johnson is a graduate of Hampton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics.
