The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently proclaimed Nov. 1 through Nov. 20, 2022, as the county’s official recognition of America Recycles Day in Prince William County.

The proclamation showed that the board wholeheartedly supports recycling and reducing waste to help extend the Prince William County Landfill’s lifespan and save natural resources.

The board encouraged people to take the online “I Recycle” pledge, endorsed by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. People who take the pledge will have a chance to win a $300 gift card. Children in grades K–12 can also sign the pledge for a chance to win a $300 gift card and a $500 school environmental grant. A Prince William County resident has won the “I Recycle” pledge contest eight times in the last nine years.

County staff and Keep Prince William Beautiful volunteers will be at Bull Run Library on Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at Chinn Park Library on Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to engage with residents about recycling and encourage them to take the “I Recycle” pledge.

Thousands of localities nationwide celebrate America Recycles Day to encourage local businesses and residents to recycle and buy products made of recycled material.

Prince William County has participated in America Recycles Day since 2013.
