Prince William County Gears Up for Bike to Work Day 2025 with Pit Stops and Events

Prince William County is once again inviting residents to swap car keys for bike helmets as it gears up for Bike to Work Day 2025 on Thursday, May 15.

The annual event encourages people to consider cycling as a healthy, sustainable and cost-effective alternative to driving. Whether cycling the entire way to work or connecting with transit or rideshare services, Bike to Work Day promotes reduced traffic congestion, improved air quality and increased physical activity.

Bike to Work Day is coordinated regionally by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, or MWCOG, and Commuter Connections to support regional sustainability goals. This year’s event will feature nine local pit stops across Prince William County, the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, and the Town of Dumfries. Riders who pre-register can stop by for free water bottles provided by the Prince William County Department of Transportation, or PWCDOT, as well as free T-shirts and snacks from Commuter Connections, while supplies last.

“Biking to work directly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, eases traffic congestion and conserves energy,” said Bryce Barrett, a Principal Planner with PWCDOT and the county’s representative on MWCOG’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Subcommittee. “These benefits apply whether you’re biking all the way to work or using your bike to connect with transit or ridesharing services.”

Pit Stops in the Prince William area will be open from 6-9 a.m. and are located at:

  • Manassas VRE Station – 9451 West St., Manassas

  • Manassas Park VRE Station – 9300 Manassas Dr., Manassas Park

As part of Bike Month programming, PWCDOT and the City of Manassas have partnered with the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, or WABA, to offer an Adult Learn to Ride Class on Saturday, May 10, from 2-5 p.m. The class will be held at 9024 Prince William Street in Manassas, in the parking lot used for the Manassas Farmers Market.

“The Adult Learn to Ride Class is perfect for those who are interested in biking to work or for pleasure, but do not know how to ride or have not ridden a bike in a long time,” said Barrett. “Challenging yourself, learning a new skill and exploring our community will be both fun and rewarding.”

In support of biking accessibility, PWCDOT has also partnered with Prince William Public Libraries to offer bike repair kits for checkout. The kits include basic tools for routine maintenance and are now available at all branches. Libraries in highly bikeable areas will receive two kits, while others will receive at least one.
