The Police Department recently received the results of a Community Satisfaction Survey conducted earlier this year. The survey was part of the agency’s continual effort to engage residents and solicit feedback regarding the quality of services provided to our community. These surveys are also necessary for the Police Department to remain a nationally accredited law enforcement agency through CALEA, the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.
As in years past, the survey was conducted by The Logit Group. Although funded by the Police Department, the survey was conducted independently and exclusively by the firm with no involvement or influence from the agency or its members.
In addition to gauging overall satisfaction of quality of life in Prince William County, an additional nine measures specific to the Police Department were surveyed which included seven measures on the perceptions of police services and two regarding safety in the community. Approximately 800 resident interviews were completed and were available in both English and Spanish. Data in the final report was weighted to reflect the most recent projected Census estimates on County demographics.
The results showed perceptions of Police Department services and residents’ feelings of safety in the County were overwhelmingly positive, showing similar trends with years past and noting overall satisfaction rankings in the 90th percentile in all measured areas.
Historically, conducting community surveys has proven helpful to gauge insights into how the Police Department operates. These results provide yet another opportunity for our agency to engage and receive feedback on the delivery of police services and how we are performing overall. Surveys serve as a tool to guide decision making on where we need to focus our resources to improve police services.
