Solarize Virginia Program Makes Switching to Solar Energy Easier and Affordable

Prince William County has partnered with the Local Energy Alliance Program, or LEAP, to bring its 11th annual Solarize Virginia campaign to residents, making it easier, more efficient and more affordable for homeowners to switch to solar power. 

The initiative supports the Prince William County Office of Sustainability’s efforts to expand access to clean energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions as part of the county’s Strategic Plan and Community Energy and Sustainability Master Plan. By partnering with LEAP, the county is helping residents connect with vetted solar providers and take advantage of cost-saving opportunities.  

Since 2015, 3,100 residential solar systems have been installed in Prince William County. Solarize Prince William further supports this transition through providing competitive pricing and discounts by working closely with trusted, vetted installers, helping to make solar energy more accessible, reduce energy costs, lower homeowners’ carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner environment. 

“Switching to solar can reduce the energy cost burden for our residents, particularly as we see rising utility rates, while also supporting the region and county’s climate goals by bringing cleaner, carbon-free energy onto the grid,” said Giulia Manno Prince William Senior Environmental Program Manager. 

LEAP also provides ongoing support throughout the process, creating a seamless experience from consultation to installation. 

“We know that switching to solar can feel overwhelming due to complicated quotes, high upfront costs or uncertainty about which installer to trust,” says Deborah Arenstein, Solar Program Manager of LEAP. “Our goal is to simplify the process, provide expert guidance and make it as easy as possible for Virginians to transition to solar power.”  

Launched in 2014, the Solarize Virginia program supports homeowners by offering free solar satellite assessments and education on the benefits of solar energy. The program has helped residents reduce reliance on traditional energy sources while saving money. 

Homeowners and businesses interested in participating in Solarize Virginia can sign up for a free solar satellite assessment and access discounted rates through July 15.
