Your Input is Needed for Survey on Public Art Initiative

In an ongoing effort to develop a public art policy for Prince William County, we are seeking input from the public. The goal for having a policy is to leverage the power of the arts to humanize the built environment and invigorate public spaces in our community. Currently, Prince William County lacks dedicated resources and a centralized process for initiating or responding to opportunities to incorporate public art into its natural and built environments. You can view and take the short survey here.

“We’re excited to hear the community’s perspective on public art and how a program here in Prince William can reflect our shared values and aspirations,” said Seth Hendler-Voss, Director of Prince William County Parks and Recreation. “We invite anyone interested in sharing their voice or just curious to observe and learn about public art in general to take the survey. Your input is valued and important to this process.”

A public art program would help leverage local and national talent to help enhance the identity and character of a community and cultivate a unique sense-of-place; humanize the built environment and enhance the meaning of civic spaces; and support cultural tourism and economic development to attract visitors and commercial investment.

If approved, the program would position Prince William County among a select group of jurisdictions in the region with formal public art programs and only the second county, after Arlington County.
