Dog Owner License Information

Dog Licenses (both new and renewal licenses) can be purchased online at www.petdata.com/pwc.

DOG LICENSES

Effective November 1, 2020, Prince William County has outsourced the dog licensing program to PetData, Inc., a company that provides animal licensing services throughout the United States.

Prince William County will no longer process dog licenses at the counter, by mail, or online. PetData will handle everything from mailing animal licensing notices to processing payments and entering data to answering phone calls from pet owners to online pet licensing.

To License Your Pet Online: Go to www.petdata.com/pwc and under License Now, click "Online." Your pet’s rabies certificate may be uploaded or submitted later by fax, mail or email. All major credit cards are accepted, and a small convenience fee will apply per transaction. Multiple pets (up to 4) can be licensed in one transaction.

To License Your Pet by Mail: Download an application from www.petdata.com/pwc and mail it with a copy of your pet's current rabies vaccination certificate and your check or money order payable to Prince William County (please do not send cash) to: Prince William County Pet Licensing, c/o PetData, PO Box 141929, Irving, TX 75014-1929. Paperwork will not be returned.

New Tags: Your Prince William County license tag comes with important free benefits! To access these benefits, once you receive your tag, be sure to scan the QR code on your tag using the camera in your smartphone to access the PetHub “Activate Your Tag” webpage. From there, you can create a free Basic account, signup to receive found pet alerts, keep your pet’s medical history in one place, and more. They do offer a Premium Benefits plan that can be purchased for a minimal monthly, yearly or lifetime fee.

Non-Refundable/Non-Transferrable: Payment for tags are non-refundable/non-transferrable. Once you have paid for the current year's license, we are not able to refund the payment for the dog license for any reason. Tags cannot be transferred to other pets or between owners. This includes moving to another county, moving out of state, death of your pet, and giving the pet away to someone esle or to the shelter.

KENNEL LICENSE

Citizens purchasing kennel licenses will need to get approval for their kennel license through Prince William County Zoning. Once approved by PWC Zoning residents will need to contact the Prince William County Animal Control Bureau by phone or email, to schedule an appointment so their information can be updated into PetData. Citizens will be requested to provide the zoning approval, the Kennel License Form and all rabies certificates for the dogs they currently have.

To license more than 4 pets, contact the Zoning Office at 703-792-6830 or [email protected] to obtain a kennel license.

The annual license fee for a Kennel License depends on the number of dogs.
5-10 dogs……$20.00
11-20 dogs……$25.00
21 and more…$50.00

CATS

All cats four months of age and older must have a current rabies vaccination (see the Prince William Code Chapter 4, Article V). Cats are not required to be licensed.
