This July, Celebrate “the Power of Parks” with Prince William County Parks and Recreation

This July, we invite you to join us as we celebrate Park and Recreation Month! Parks and recreation has the power to bring people together; strengthen health and well-being; and build more resilient, connected communities. This month there are so many opportunities to discover “the Power of Parks” in Prince William County. As part of Park and Recreation Month, our Rec on Wheels program will be coming to four parks across the county. We invite you to also visit our various parks and facilities at your leisure, come to our events, explore our many programs, and check out all that Prince William County Parks and Recreation has to offer.

If you haven’t been to a Fridays at 5 event yet this is your chance! On Friday, July 17, Leroy Burks & the VooDoo Whiskey Band will be performing. Grab your crew and head out for this FREE outdoor concert series—featuring delicious local food trucks, refreshing beer and wine for purchase (21+), and an unbeatable community vibe!
July is also a great time to visit our Jean C. Smith Amphitheater at Locust Shade Park and catch a show. We’ve got a musical performance by Kingdom Music Citizens, and the always popular Reptile World program. We’ve also got a puppet show the whole family can enjoy.
Want to immerse yourself in some history? Rippon Lodge is hosting Museum Family Monday on July 20, 10 am-11 am. Bring the family to explore history through fun, historic games and activities at Rippon Lodge Historic Site. Programs include outdoor and indoor experiences. Get tickets today.
Ben Lomond Historic Site is offering a hospital lantern tour on July 18, from 8 pm-9:45 pm. Following the Battle of First Manassas, Ben Lomond was used as a hospital where surgeons treated the wounded throughout the night. Every inch of space in the house was used to care for hurt and dying soldiers. Tour the hospital in the dark and discover the aftermath of the Civil War’s first major battle through the words of those who experienced war’s horrors. Tours begin every 30 minutes at 8 p.m., 8:30 p.m., and 9:00 p.m. Purchase tickets for the tour today.
